Thanks a lot jay (jcornwall) for your precious help... My problem might be related to some sort of bad NIC/router/something else combination... (still, it's weird that it happens only since Jaunty upgrade, on 2 machines...)

Anyway, I've found a workaround, with a script that runs at boot to automate the restart of avahi-daemon, so I can live with this for now.
