I also try to use tvtime and cannot get any sound with my Pinnacle PCTV 310i . I have specially searched for bought this rather old card because the number of web references that it works under Linux.

I get channels, get video but have no sound and this card has no separate audio output to connect to the audio input on the motherboard. The card shows up in various ALSA settings, can be selected, tvtime delivers both television and S-Video capture data but no any sound is heard. I tried the hacks proposed here but so far this is not helpful. Enjoying video without sound and hoping for the best.
