This bug is _not_ fixed for me in up-to-date intrepid with the -proposed repository enabled. I log cycles and temperature using the script that I attached to this bug
This morning, I had 135 cycles in one hour. Smartctl reports the following identification for my disk:
=== START OF INFORMATION SECTION ===
Model Family: Hitachi Travelstar 5K100 series
Device Model: HTS541080G9SA00
Serial Number: MPBDL0XKGB63RG
Firmware Version: MB4OC60R
User Capacity: 80,026,361,856 bytes
Device is: In smartctl database [for details use: -P show]
ATA Version is: 7
ATA Standard is: ATA/ATAPI-7 T13 1532D revision 1
Local Time is: Mon Jan 12 21:42:35 2009 CET
SMART support is: Available - device has SMART capability.
SMART support is: Enabled
I had to re-enable a periodic (every 5 minutes) use of hdparm -b 200. Using 254 seems ok to me, but sometimes it seems like intrepid is _not_ setting this value at the right point. I use suspend-to-ram and suspend-to-disk regularly.
