It is naive to expect that this can be fixed by the community. Problems of this kind can only be fixed by a coordinated entity with resources: someone that can purchase different hard drives, possibly laptops, and is able to put some pressure on the manufacturers for information, and to invest significant time in testing and development. Clearly Dell is in the best position to do this.

This bug entry has turned into a discussion forum, with the same things repeated over and over. I don't think there is anything useful to a developer aimed at fixing this beyond first few posts. The community has failed, so to speak, but as I said, this is not a problem amenable to a "community solution".

I strongly suspect that if somebody (a company) was seriously working on a fix, they wouldn't post here, possibly until the fix was ready.

My suggestion to everybody is to stop posting ideas (even if they are good, in actuality they are not helping) and evidence about their own system. It is useless !! Nobody is going to read all the messages to gather bits of evidence. Please, post only if you are a developer actively working on a fix, or if a developer asks for specific tests to be done by somebody with the problem (admittedly the latter is a very long shot).
