In order for it to be backported, it must first exist in the current development version (Jaunty, at the time of writing). That, in turn probably requires it to be in Debian.

You may wish to file a bug on the Debian bug tracker asking for abiword 2.6.6 to be packaged, noting that this bug is fixed in it.
