You're right, I misunderstood, and thought U1 Preferences was considered an active and continuous desktop presence. Anyway, from what I've read, Ubuntu One should only appear when it has a notification to show, as a Temporary Notification Source. When it's syncing and has no notifications to show, it should behave, from what I've read and forgetting the desktop presence thing, as a "Background task status and access - Displayed while a background task is running to show status and provide access to features and settings.".

So, according to the guidelines, U1 should always be idle (maybe in the notification area expander Win7 has, which would allow some user customization), and only appear in the main notification are in these two cases - as a Temporary Notification Source and as a Background task status and access. This's my understanding, thoughts?
