I can confirm this behaviour on Jaunty RC with varying numbers of beeps at reboot or shutdown.

The beeps are coming from my pc speaker NOT through my soundcard.

Used to get just the single beep in Intrepid but these multiple beeps are so annoying in Jaunty.

Arrived at current RC release via updating Intrepid (not a clean install)
