I have three different PCs, two with Jaunty and one with Mint Gloria. The first shuts down with no beeps, the second (a Compaq DeskPro) has a single beep and the third (a Dell Optiplex) several beeps. I do not recall the beeps when I was using Hardy. No beeping when I log off first before shutting down so this is what I do (when I remember).
