If Vista and OSX both can do the updates in 30-35 seconds as you quote - I am wondering if anything is wrong with Linux/kernel?

I originally reported this as a problem against Ubuntu Hardy with high CPU utilization while loading pages but the bug report got hijacked by disk thrashing bug as it apparently also consumes CPU while thrashing the disk - I have never had disk thrashing problem.

Is there a way to reproduce this easily? I have debug build on my machine so I can try to figure out what is going wrong.
