Comment 17 for bug 133020

Just got to this bug after investigating why a friend's vmware-player installation from 7.04's commercial repo no longer works after upgrading to 7.10. We don't want to move away from repo-supplied packages since smooth upgrades is one of its key advantages. However, it does seem that a big warning that VMWare would stop working on doing the upgrade should have been very prominent. Please consider this for future releases -- for some users the ability to run their old Win32 installations for that one important program is a key factor in their ability to move to Ubuntu for everything else. Looking forward to it becoming available in the `partner' repo.
