Comment 31 for bug 254035

This would be a change just to the setuptools package -- it would not require any change to any of the affected packages. The change would be to have the setuptools package add the following to the system-wide distutils config file:

[easy_install]
site-dirs=/var/lib/python-support/python2.5

Presumably there will be a deeper patch to setuptools/easy_install in the future, but I thought that this one would be an easy change to make right now.

If that doesn't seem like a good idea to the Debian/Ubuntu packagers then I'll try to think of an alternative fix.
