Is the following folder created in your system? /usr/share/python-support/python-paste
Did you try starting SchoolTool server manually from terminal? The command is: sudo /etc/init.d/schooltool-2009 start See http://book.schooltool.org/htmlhelp/setup-initial.html
If you need to use SchoolTool very urgently and nothing helps, you can downgrade: make a back-up of your database, apt-get remove ST 2009, install 2008 again and use it with your data file.
