I didn't have much luck trying the fix for poppler on the freedesktop.org bug.

First of all it's statically linked to evince so you have to recompile evince. You can't just test it by compiling poppler.

Secondly, evince doesn't even compile with any other poppler (0.7.3, 0.8.0) than the distro version.
