I have the same problem, too. Try generating a PDF using LyX, for example. I attach a file to illustrate the problem. This PDF file was generated using LyX. Try printing or previewing it: the result is very ugly. Printing the PDF file using Adobe Reader works perfectly.
However, if you generate a .dvi file from the same LyX source, the printing result is perfect.
