One interesting issue that I don't think has been mentioned is that mutter grabs and blocks the use of the Super key. So in mutter, my patch won't work. And any attempt to share Super key will fail.

Specifically, mutter's default value for /apps/mutter/general/overlay_key is Super_L. Mutter grabs this key and won't let go (so g-s-d never sees press). The overlay_key is not used directly by mutter, but does get passed along to gnome-shell which uses it for something (presumably to pull down its HUD/overlay? I haven't used it yet).

So, mutter needs to use a different key if we fix this bug. Also, anyone else in the world that relies on the keypress Super+p, since Windows/BIOS now mandates the behavior of it.
