@Evan: do we need to keep the remainder of this bug as a karmic milestoned task or can it be deferred to lucid?

I don't think it's a big deal if big iron servers need to have space to install two kernels instead of one, unless the non-pae kernel might get preferred on boot (is the pae kernel preferred right now?).
