Oops, pasted the wrong thing.

sudo /etc/init.d/mythtv-backend stop

and then

sudo mythtv-setup.real --verbose channelscan,siparser,channel,record,extra > mythtv-setup.log

replace "stop" with "restart" to relaunch the backend. Sorry for the bug spam.
