More info: I'm installing a Master Backend/Frontend version with the "advanced option". I installed most of the myth plug-ins, nvidia drivers, and used the remote control config/lirc driver for Hauppage WinTV.

Did this only happen once, or did you retry and have it happen again? It
almost looks like the target partition isn't formatted and might have
already had a symbolic link in place.

This happened three times, with it freezing at the same point each time.
My disk setup is one sata drive with three partitions. I'm reformatting the first to be root, the second as swap, and the third has been previously formatted and is mounted as /home ... Maybe I didn't check the format box, but I'm pretty sure. I'll try again later, and I'll also try a different disk and report back.

Changed in mythbuntu:
status: New → Incomplete

Ah, sorry for the lapse. I tried the installation using a PATA disk, but I again had no luck. I tried formatting the partitions seperately using fdisk and mkfs.ext3. I could mount and write to them, so I tried to use the installer, but it crashed as before.
The installation crashed in the same place as before installing onto the SATA disk.

I ended up doing a minimal console ubuntu install and grabbing myth packages from aptitude. The installer didn't work for me, but I've been impressed by the quality of the actual packages!
