Interesting, it didn't work for me at all. The window would basically get "sent to background" behind other windows.

I had to apply the patch in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/207065. Now, Alt+MiddleClick resize works on any window, and if I so choose, Alt+RightClick resize works on any window.
