the only working "fix" i found so far is installing shiki-colors; they have an extra setting for window borders:
"easy-metacity" which uses thicker borders.

I'd also like to add that from the people i could convince to switch to ubuntu (> 25 so far) almost everyone mentioned that this is really annoying .
