I've got to agree with you. The result of triage showing that this problem has been classified as low shows the Ubuntu team do not really understand how they should proceed to get Linux on the desktop. There is no (or little) commercial pressure for new features, but there should be pressure to ensure that first time users have as little bother as possible with the *basics* like being able to easily position a mouse pointer over a window edge!

One of the first things I noticed when using Ubuntu on my laptop was the thin window borders for manipulation with the mouse. Since I'm an experienced PC user I switched to a Vista style theme, which has the same sized borders as Vista, but the average user is not going to do this, they'll probably just get frustrated, tell other people about the experience, and switch back to Windows.

By all accounts the latest version of Ubuntu makes this problem even *worse*?

If you can't patch or configure the window manager to have 'virtual' borders of at *least* 5 pixels or even better some resolution independent size than you should use a theme that has physical borders of a decent size, and really that's all there is to it.
