This is an even far more reaching problem than was noted initially:

For instance, when I am trying to entertain myself I often select
"Filmuppspelare" (movieplayer for those who do not -yet- speak
Swedish). How on earth is one of those "ordinary people" that
this Ubuntu project is so much caring for going to be able to
figure out that the application started actually is something
called Totem?!?

This is a complex problem, because how should a newbie
figure out that something called Totem is the key to get
going with media content? Accordingly it is a good idea
having descriptive menu items in the native language
selected for the logged on user.

But as easy it makes navigating the menu, it makes the
next step of getting help or reporting problems harder.

My personal view is that the design choices for Ubuntu
are right regarding this particular naming convention,
but then launchpad should get upgraded to help
users find their way around to whatever section needed.
