I fail to understand the logic of adding a link to a private bug report in a public bug report. Since there is the expectation that if I see a link, I can read the page/document it links to.

I have an issue in 12.04 where my Huawei E220 USB modem will not connect. 12.04 does not even mount it. I did a search on Google using the error message I got "modem-manager crashed with SIGSEGV in g_utf8_validate()". I found a number of bug reports which some bright spark at Launchpad.net closed and inserted a note referring to bug #952941, which I have been advised is a private bug which I cannot read. This is unacceptable.

I feel very strongly that I should be able to see what progress, if any, has been made in resolving the bug. To date I have yet to find a solution to this issue. There is no post anywhere that advises that this bug is being worked on and what the progress is. At the very least I expect some public feedback/acknowledgment of the issue and what is being done to resolve it. I do not need to know the contents of any private emails/memos/messages being circulated between those that are, hopefully, looking into it.

I would appreciate it if someone can give me some feedback on my issue or where I can go to read it. I have logged a query on my issue on the ubuntuforms.org and linuxquestions.org forums. So far the only response I received was from the good folks on linuxquestions.org.
