Re concern about security implications of acting as a consumer:

OpenID providers are available offering multi-factor authentication and effective measures (Verisign's SeatBelt browser plugin, Vidoop's completely non-password-based approach) to prevent other attacks; a security-conscious user can have better security *with* OpenID (and a provider offering such features) than accessing launchpad *without* it.
