I had the same problem with kpackagekit.

But with aptitude I had no problems. I did the following:

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude full-upgrade
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop
sudo rm -rf /tmp/kde*
sudo rm -rf /var/tmp/kdecache*

Then reboot.
