I guess the best fix for now should be to revert to KDE 3.5.1 from maverick release

Commands: (untested)

sudo ppa-purge ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop

Not sure if you need the latter, but it will not hurt and might reinstall needed packages that have been removed
