@Nathan - download a recent development snapshot as mentioned in comment #59 - the workarounds described here are not intended for users, they are discussed here to pin-point the error and fix it so that Inkscape extensions work out-of-the-box on all supported versions of Mac OS X.

If you need a working version ASAP and can't wait for the soon-to-be-released stable version 0.48.1 (which will include the fix), browse to <http://inkscape.modevia.com/macosx-snap/?C=M;O=D> and download the top-most (newest) DMG listed there. You can keep the stable version installed, just drag&drop the development snapshot into a different folder, and use it with care (i.e. save often), until 0.48.1 is out.
