The cairo bug report linked from this bug contains a fix. It is waiting
for someone to test with psfrag.

Did you try it? Did it not work for you?

Subsetting is required because PS fonts are limited to 256 characters.
TrueType/OpenType fonts can have up to 65535 glyphs.
