Can you specify where you are seeing this message? I suspect this is not something which is actually a text message issued by e2fsck or e2fsprogs in general, but by the init scripts which is responsible for the boot screen. "Check of drives" isn't something which is printed by e2fsck or e2fsprogs as far as I know.
