So, bug 371182 modified Cairo-specific code. It's possible that the root cause here is that your system's "libcairo2" version is buggy, if your broken Firefox versions are built with "--enable-system-cairo." (Though I'm not 100% sure whether "enable-system-cairo" refers to the system version at build-time or run-time.)
Just to test this theory -- what version of libcairo2 do you have? (apt-cache show libcairo2 | grep Version ) I have Version 1.8.8-2ubuntu1.
