I have the same bug. running Ubuntu 14.04 x64, have tried several kernels including the latest 3.14.7 and 3.15 and the bug persists.
i have attached a 3tb HGST formatted with NTFS to my Asus Chromebox to one of its four usb 3.0 ports (no 2.0 here my bad), so no NVIDIA graphis, just intel ones.

is there a temporary fix for this?, anyone? its been many years and nada??? gee this sucks
