@Jordan: It's great to know someone is working on it - I'm available for testing too, as unfortunately I have no real Python coding experience.
As for python-OTR, [1] has released the first beta of the pure python implementation protocol, it doesn't seem the authors are dropping the support for a python bridge, but it's true, they mention the "deprecated" C-style bindings that were available before.
