.... I thought I was screwed so I scrolled all the way down to see if there was a solution yet and I found Michael Fox's command there and decided to give it a try. Now my machine is back to normal and I don't think I'll be trying to switch back to UNR interface for a while. Thank you so much Michael!
I'm glad my posting helped you but I can't take credit for the solution. The command that did the trick was posted earlier in this bug thread by Neil Pattel and I just repeated it to try to help someone else (who unfortunately has a different problem).
