I can confirm that 'bzr lp-login' really helps utilizing my network. Now it is consistently around 550KB/sec download speed - earlier it was a 550KB/s spike every ~10 seconds, and nothing in between.

It also reduced memory usage 10X, from 4GB to 400MB, and I was actually able to branch mysql-5.0 in 16m28.121s.

Memory leak when downloading with HTTP?
