I actually got the same error from the Canonical squid proxy in the datacenter. It generally takes it about 15min before it realizes there is a problem (it seems to be copying the revision information but when it comes to copy the inventory information it fails.)
I'm not 100% positive how we are abusing the system. I'm guessing we are sending a complex range request, which squid decides it needs to grab the whole file and then parse. But then it actually falls over when it tries to respond to the original request.
