Caroline: It does not look like your bzr traffic is going via a Squid server at all, and quite different from the problem described by Stuart.
Your trace ends almost immediately with a short response from the server, only carrying the first of two requested ranges.
For Squid I consider this bug fixed with the release of 2.6.STABLE19. Stuart, you are welcome to confirm/reopen if still seeing the timeout after the Canonical data center Squid has been upgraded.
