Bug Description

Binary package hint: empathy

When i receive a new message on chat, i see the baloon.
After, when i click on the name of my friend in the indicator applet, chat window popout, and the indicator will repeat the notification (sound and baloon)

I can confirm this bug in maverik, empathy 2.32.0. I also get double notifications on new incoming messages, the first notification happens when the message is received, and the second when you open the message.

seems like the problem only happens when using indicator-applet. notification area does not cause the issue to my testing. on the other side i have only reproduced this bug once.

I think that empathy needs to be told to not send old messages to the notification area when the conversation window is opened. This would involve a check to see if a window's already open, but I'm assuming this is probably done already somewhere in the code.

Happens to me with both the messaging menu and the tray icon. It does not happen when the conversation window is already opened though. Seems like the trigger is the action of opening the window.

deleted my branches. the upstream patch is for empathy 2.91.xx, i tried to port it to 2.32 but empathy fails to build :(
