Bug Description

As you can see in the attached screenshot the initial bootscreen of the live cd is not completely localized.
The top part of the picture is a screenshot of this screen of todays UNE iso (20100224.2), for all languages the first two items remain in english, the others are translated.
The bottom part is a screenshot of todays Desktop live cd (20100224), there this first item is in english in all languages.

Hi Markus,

Thanks a lot for reporting this.

The bootloader, debian-installer and ubiquity cannot make use of language packs, so translations need to be manually exported from Launchpad to the source package. The developers do take care of translations and this from time to time, but it seems the testing period coincided with a time when the latest translations have not yet made it to the package.

The string itself is translatable, and translated in German and in many other languages:

https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/gfxboot-theme-ubuntu/+pots/bootloader/de/+translate?batch=10&show=all&search=try+ubuntu

I'm leaving the task open just to keep an eye on it, but I think this will simply be fixed on the next gfxboot-theme-ubuntu version where translations are exported and put in the sources.

The netbook bit is separate. See bug 518718. I'll include a fresh export in the next upload and close this bug, but there's no need to reopen it to point out that the netbook stuff is still untranslated; just update it in Launchpad and I'll export again before release.

This bug was fixed in the package gfxboot-theme-ubuntu - 0.9.3

---------------
gfxboot-theme-ubuntu (0.9.3) lucid; urgency=low

  * Update translations from Launchpad (LP: #527052).
  * Change "Ubuntu Netbook Remix" strings to "Ubuntu Netbook" (LP: #518718).
Adjust translations where I could do so accurately.
  * Remove unused imgsize, showlogo, and readimage functions.
  * If hidden-timeout=1 is set in gfxboot.cfg, then try to display a splash
window before the main window, displaying the contents of access.pcx at
the bottom of the screen. If the timeout expires on this screen, then
    the default menu item will be booted without ever showing the main menu;
conversely, any key press will show the main menu. The idea of this is
to avoid everyone having to see a complicated main menu, while offering
a visual indication that you need to press a key to get to it
    (LP: #530713).
