Why it is marked as Wishlist? It is a very bad UX regression.

does this bug cover pointing the mouse pointer to the speaker icon on the panel and scrolling the mouse wheel or only using the mousewheel in the expanded submenu ?

i would like the former to work again since it bugs me very much that i cant quickly change the volume anymore ...
if the bug only covers the slider being usable with the mouse wheel i will open a new one.

Excellent. I would LOVE to have this re-implemented. I really love the quick access to the volume that way

yes, and same problem is in rhythmbox ;-)

and, why right-click trayicon's features are removed in lucid?

pavolzetor: it seems they decided to move many tray icons to the indicator applet and away from notification area. Don't know why, but they behave a little different now.

Iam Very Happy that its working now. But there was a tool tip in the earlier versions of ubuntu, which shows the % volume. Its missing in the latest version. Without the tool tip, Its not very friendly.

Please If possible bring back the tool tip.

The mouse wheel volume control does not work when you click the icon and have the dropdown menu open. It works only when it is closed.

Tomasz, I think that's intended, it scrolls when you are scrolling directly over the slider, otherwise not.

Bernhard: However, it's confusing and unintuitive: I scroll over the icon - I notice that I'm getting very poor visual feedback - I open the dropdown to see what I'm doing better - I find scrolling no longer works.

Yes, I *could* move the mouse down to the slider and scroll there instead, but that's a workaround, not a good thing - adjusting the volume is a task that should be quick and require as little movement and thought as possible.

Also, I'm pretty sure this worked in karmic.

I find that with the default settings the volume changing is too slow. It takes 12 scroll gestures on a standard mouse to get from full volume to mute. I believe it should take no more that 3 scroll gestures for a pleasant user experience (and perhaps an acceleration factor should be considered also, to allow fine grained control).

Also, the visible indicator should be the same system notification as the keyboard volume control uses.

I should have said that I'm talking about using the scrollwheel while on top of the icon. That's the volume scrolling that's too slow.

Alejandro,

thanks for your comment and for making Ubuntu a better OS. However this bug has been already fixed some time ago, so you should open a separate bug instead.

Nevertheless, I agree with your thought!

Following Davide's comment, I'm opening a new bug for the slow volume scrolling. Please mark but 551725 as "Affects me too" if you think the scrolling speed should be increased. Thanks!

In Lucid final, I'm not able anymore to change the volume with the mouse scroll wheel while the indicator applet is dropped down.
In previous versions I could simply click the applet and change the volume from anywhere in the screen. Also, there was a graphical feedback while the mouse was moved over the applet itself, which is also gone. This is in my opinion a serious usability bug.
