Bug Description

Binary package hint: gaupol

Availability:
The package is already be in the Ubuntu universe, and builds for the architectures it is designed to work on.
 https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gaupol

Rationale:
The package is a new build dependency or dependency of a package that we already support.
gaupol is a new build dependency for translate-toolkit which is already in main.

Security:
could not find anything relevant (cve)

Quality assurance:
After installing the package it must be possible to make it working with a reasonable effort of configuration and documentation reading.
There are no long-term outstanding bugs which affect the usability of the program to a major degree.
There are no bugs in Ubuntu for this package.
The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's bug tracking systems must be evaluated. Links to these bug trackers need to be provided in the MIR report. Important bugs must be pointed out and discussed in the MIR report.

 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/browse.cgi?product=gaupol
There are some outstanding bugs for Windows but we do not care about them.
The other bugs are either very little (some incorrect framerate displayed) or feature requests.

The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu:
  http://packages.qa.debian.org/g/gaupol.html
  https://edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gaupol

The package does not deal with exotic hardware which we cannot support.

UI standards:
gaupol is internationalized (translatable), using the standard intltool/gettext.
The pot file is already in the original source package, not built by the build system.
There are already a couple of translations (ca, es, pl, sv)
It already ships with a .desktop file.

Dependencies:
All build and binary dependencies (including Recommends:) are in main *except* for python-chardet which is still in universe (it however has no dependencies out of main, and I'll fill a MIR after this one).

Standards compliance:
I'm not familiar with FSH so I can't judge this.

Maintenance:
This seems to be maintained well in Debian.

Background information:
subtitle editor for text-based subtitle files
Text-based subtitles are commonly used with DivX video. Gaupol supports
multiple subtitle file formats and provides means of text corrections and time
manipulations. Gaupol's user interface is designed with attention to batch
processing of multiple documents and convenient translating.

The package has had the same name for a few years. It has the same name upstream and in Debian.

Here's the [MIR] for "chardet" on which gaupol depends (in Recomends:) and which is not in main

It seems very weird to me that translate-toolkit would need a DivX subtitle editor as a build dependency.

Indeed it seems that this mostly was a packaging glitch which got fixed in Debian's 1.5.3-1 version. I synced that one, which makes the gaupol MIR unnecessary.

This bug was fixed in the package translate-toolkit - 1.5.3-1ubuntu1

---------------
translate-toolkit (1.5.3-1ubuntu1) lucid; urgency=low

  * Drop gaupol recommends to suggests; it's not in main, and we certainly
don't need a video subtitle editor by default for translating software!
