Bug Description
Binary package hint: gdm
Since many releases the default french keyboard is set to "french alternative".
Now I'm testing karmic amd64 uptodate, the default keyboard is reverted to the simple "French" and many caracters are no more available easily like … «»

You might see the same problem I have (see bug #403397). I've to use gnome-keyboard- properties and use "Reset to defaults" on the Layout tab to my preferred and configured keyboard layout.
