Please unblacklist intel chips in compiz for testing

This update has been made on a erroneous information, bug #259385 is not fixed and has been confirmed recently to still hard freeze on login with current intel driver on karmic (see status in the bug report). Therefore whitelisting the card in compiz will result in making ubuntu impossible to use for these computers unless compiz si removed from console before X starts. I kept this bug report up to date has I have some computers that have this graphic card here so I highly recommend to reverse that change.

I can't say if Intel GM965 still need to be blacklisted..

I am running Karmic and have the following release of compiz installed (partial listing of aptitude show compiz):

I do have one of the blacklisted intel chips, ID 8086:2562 (result of lspci | grep -i vga):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)

Removing the indicate ID manually from the blacklist and enabling compiz will result in a freeze that can only be resolved with a reboot by using the power button.

So the freeze is still an issue but nevertheless ... I really would like this resolved and have the possibility to use compiz again reinstated

Surrender hope all ye who enter this thread. I don't think any updates are coming. It is the end of the line for older intel graphics hardware. My setup is Intel 82845G. There is still a freeze in Karmic, even if Compiz is removed.

The silence tells me, "If you want to run the latest gnu/linux from now on, upgrade your hardware or use older distributions".

The silence only means that launchpad is not a discussion or a thread, but a tool to work on bugs, therefore please don't comment here unless you have relevant technical informations to provide. Bug 259385 has high priority, is Triaged, and upstream recognized the bug and changed the status to "in progress". If upstream developer would stop to work on that issue, they would not declare that there is work in progress. However, while there is some work done on this, it is right that we can't expect this card to have as much attention as a recent card. At the moment, it is true that the situation is very unfortunate and not common. As some potential solutions, you can probably find workaround if you search in forums, or you can use a older distribution, or plug another graphic card in your computer until the wonderful day where the driver will finally support your card again.
