Bug Description

I used to be able to manual sort a data pilot no problem by just going into the options and setting to manual and then I could drag rows up and down into the correct order....this method no longer works. I am running OpenOffice 3.1.0 in Ubuntu 8.10.

Thanks all, let me know if there is more detail that I can add. To replicate you can just make a column with random months, then another column with numbers (random is fine), then try to make a data pilot using months as the rows and the numbers in the actual data pilot center. Try to set the months to sort manually and see if you can move anything around, I've tried a lot and it no longer works.

It's the 3rd sheet on this file, the data pilot is set but I can't adjust rows at all, I used to be able to by just dragging rows but that's not longer the case. Thank you much

I don't see a datapilot on the the third tab, but I do on the 2nd and 4th. It does look like you can't do a manual sort at least from what little I know of how datapilot works (most likely less than you). Which version of OOo supported manual sorting in a datapilot?

I can't remember which one but I believe it was in intrepid that I could. The fact that it says "manual" still in sort options makes me think that it is supposed to be able to. I just tried again with Lucid and no go, can't move things at all.

I don't see where you see the manual sort option, which sheet/cell are you looking at? Perhaps a screenshot would help me find what you are looking at?

If you go to help on the dialog on image 3. You get this for Manual:
Sorts values alphabetically.

Yes.. that seems quite annoying as a definition for "manual".

This definitely wasn't how it was before...not sure if the developers changed their minds or something but before I could manually drag rows around (or columns) to resort them after the datapilot was made....that was functional and is a feature in other office suites (I believe Star office and MS Office have a manual sort). I'm not understanding why it's called manual if it's still automatic...how is that any different from "Ascending" or "Descending" options that are already available

Agreed on it being dumb, do you happen to know with which version it still worked for you the way you wanted it to?

Looks like it might just be we need to update that help page. These instructions helped me get this work

The key may be to press Ctrl to make it move the cell, 3.2.1rc from Oracle seems to let you move it with just a mouse click and hold, but 3.2 in Ubuntu seems to require the Ctrl or Shift key.

Jmadero - please test if the above works for you.

That didn't work, tried holding cntrl, shift and cntrl+shift, just selected cells

Can you move cells when you are not in a pivot table?
It's much easier to try on a big selection of cells, click and hold
somewhere the middle and then drag.

Yeah I can move regular cells no problem. Are you able to move data pilot cells using the cntrl + left button method? If so then I guess it's my machine but if not, I suspect it's OOo. Thanks for sticking with me on this one

Sorry I think I had it backwards... try this on Ubuntu's OOo

1. Highlight just the cells that say month names, 6 or so.
2. Click and hold in the 3rd month of the selection. The icon should change
3. Shift them up/down

Still no good, when I try to move it the mouse pointer turns into a circle with a line through it, I included an image to show what it does

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

  apport-collect -p openoffice.org-core 381948

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability to "Change Non-Private" data as it will be adding information to your bug report. Thanks in advance!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.
