Bug Description

After updating(Ubuntu jaunty) X server failed with strange behavior - all magick keys like Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace, Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc becomes desabled and ubuntu hangind at all. startx command report:
/usr/bin/X11/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so: undefined symbol: atiddxAbiDixLookupPrivate

I solved this problem for me by temporary removing libdri.so file - X server reported errors(Failed to load module "dri" (module does not exist, 0)) but it is bad solution, i think

You can't install fglrx and then run with radeonhd. They don't work together, as you've found out. ;-)

Hi,

I just upgraded my laptop (Lenovo T61) to Ubuntu 9.04 and now I'm experiencing the same problems. After a boot of the system I don't get the graphical login, it is only showing me a nice color palette (more like a knitted sweater). Also magic keys like Ctrl-Alt-BackSpace, Ctrl-Alt-F1, etc becomes disabled. Removal of the libdri.so module provides a "good" work around for me as well.

The /var/log/gdm/:0.log show the following error:
(EE) Can't load FireGL DRM library (libfglrxdrm.so).
(EE) Failed to load module "dri" (a required submodule could not be loaded, 0)
/usr/bin/X: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions//libdri.so: undefined symbol: atiddxAbiDixLookupPrivate 26796 26540
giving up.

My T61 has a Intel video card:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

Hope this problem can be fixed.

Regards,
Marcel

Marcel Kolkman - try to completely remove all radeon and radeonhd drivers(apt-cache search radeon).

Hi,

I did remove all radeon related packages, but it didn't solve the problem. It even introduced me a new bug (344640). The brightness of the laptop is very low and it can't be changed. Luckily I have my external monitor attached as well, so I still can read this ;-)

#apt-get remove --purge radeontool xserver-xorg-video-radeon
#apt-get remove --purge fglrx-kernel-source fglrx-modaliases
#apt-get remove --purge xserver-xorg-video-mach64 xserver-xorg-video-r128

The additional brightness bug (344640) has been fixed after updating the latest patches (2007-03-30).

As describe above in the work around, I removed the libdri.so that was part of the xorg-driver-fglrx by copying it to another folder. After removing all radeon packages I made a mistake to copy this libdri.so back ;-) so to solve this I did a proper reinstall of the xserver-xorg-core package (apt-get install --reinstall xserver-xorg-core). I didn't ttry it yet, but I think this will solve my problem.

Marcel
