Bug Description

In Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 5 Live CD i can not add PPPoE account in Network Manager because i have wired internet connection and my internet provider used PPPoE
Usually I use DSL tab in Network Manager to add my PPPoE account information, but in Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 5 DSL tab is deactivated (grey) Active only tabs: Wired and VPN.
I cannot establish internet connection with Network Manager.

Mobile Broadband is also greyed-out.
Perhaps we should install additional packages?

Sergiu, I have also this problem and I am very angry about it. I've been working with Kubuntu since Gutsy Gibbon and was very satisfied with that. But since I have upgraded from Intrepid to Jaunty I can't reach internet, because someone have canceled the option to proceed alternative by using terminal comand pppoeconf. The result is following:

dietmar@dietmar-desktop:~$ sudo pppoeconf
[sudo] password for dietmar:
Plugin rp-pppoe.so loaded.
RP-PPPoE plugin version 3.8p compiled against pppd 2.4.5
dietmar@dietmar-desktop:~$ ifconfig pppO

So, my opinion is, you have no chance for solve this problem untill the MOTU regognized this. I have "tilt" the jaunty and have reinstalled the intrepid. There is also this damned network-manager, but you can work with the terminal.

No update on this bug? Kubuntu Jaunty network manager does not allow to set DSL connection (it is grayed out). At the same time, Ubuntu Jaunty network manager works like a charm. At another box I have both ubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop in the same installation. And you know what? DSL settings are easily accessible when you in are in GNOME session, but there is no way to connect to PPPoE in KDE. And this is release version, stable kubuntu!

mobile broadband and DSL, these tabs are greyed-out still.
I think this should be fix in Kubuntu 9.10. It has been an hateful issue for so long...

Yes ,I have also this problem . DSL setting is accessible in GNOME ,but cannot connect under KDE environment . at first, I thought my Kubuntu Home disk space isn't enough ,but I understand there just a release problem . It isn't convenient for me switch between GNOME and KDE . I hope can solve it sooner or later.

I can confirm that this problem remains in the release version of Kubuntu 9.04 with only the regular packages installed. The "DSL" and "Mobile-broadband" tabs are greyed out in the network management plasmoid.

I tried installing the backports to get KDE 4.3, but the problem remains (and it's still as annoying).

As a workaround, PPPOE connections can still be established using pppoeconf and pon/poff/plog, but it's a pain in the ass to do this using the command line every time I plug in my laptop to my pppoe connection.

The problem is: using pppoeconf is not a solution. There are some problems with pppd in 9.04, so executing pon complains on some version conflict, and it won't work as in 8.04 with autoconnection. I remember that configuring pppoe in 9.04 was quite painful, much more painful than in any previous ubuntu version I've tested (starting since 6.06). I had a lot of trouble with that, until I've installed kde3 remix.
