Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

When inserting a CD with a windows software on it, I get a prompt offering to autorun the software. After selecting "Run"
(And assuming that WINE will execute) I get one of the following errors:

Error autorunning software
Permission Denied

or

Error autorunning software
Cannot find autorun program

Right clicking on the executable file and selecting wine will launch Wine as expected. Clicking the "Open Autorun Prompt" has the same effect.

It has the same effect as the bug. It fails.

Nautilus doesn't support autorunning EXEs/INF files currently, and should not be offering to autorun (last I checked it didn't in Intrepid, but it's been a while). If you're running Hardy, you might still be seeing this erroneous behavior, though IIRC we committed a fix for it on the Nautlus 2.22 branch. Can you tell us the Nautilus version? (nautilus --version at the commandline).

Inserting a Windows CD in jaunty still offers autorunning it but fails. src/nautilus-autorun-software.c does not implement it yet. The user only sees something like "could not autorun", which should be more descriptive or autorunning should not be offered at all.

This bug was fixed in the package nautilus - 1:2.26.0-0ubuntu5

---------------
nautilus (1:2.26.0-0ubuntu5) jaunty; urgency=low

  * debian/control.in:
    - set vcs url
  * debian/patches/16_workaround_autorestart_issue.patch:
    - set the autorestart to false to workaround gnome-session respawning
      nautilus again and again when not displaying the desktop for example,
      the real issue is a gnome-session one which is probably not going to be
      worked for jaunty (lp: #325973)
  * debian/nautilus-data.gconf-defaults,
    debian/patches/17_no_autorun_launcher.patch:
    - set the key to not do software autoruns and the entry to hidden so the
      cluebar is not displayed in nautilus either since autorun don't work under
      linux is the majority of the cases and displaying the dialog confuse users
      (lp: #290535)
