Bug Description

I'm using Intrepid 8.10 Beta.

Installation was normal. On rebooting I could not boot in normal,recovery, or last good configuration.

I used the alternate cd and ran the repair broken system. During boot it read some of the disk and managed to boot into a working system.

Now when I reboot normally it stops when the bar is about 20% of the way across.

When I boot in the recovery mode it stops when it gets to the intel wireless 3945 section and says PCI disabled. Next time it stopped at synaptic section, 3rd time it stopped at setting clock.

I can still boot in the last good boot mode and everthing seems to work.

I had this same problem in Alpha 6, but not in Alpha 5.

Dell E1505, intel 3945 wireless, broadcom controller, ati x1400

I burned a new cd and reinstalled. Still could not boot on initial boot. Succeeded in booting by leaving alternate disk in cd tray. I used normal boot and it read something off the disk during boot and succeded in booting up.

Now rebooting seems to be working without disk.

Let me know if there are any files you would like to see.

After running all the updates after the install I now can only get the system to boot if I boot off the disk, choose rescue mode, and then boot normally.

10/04/08 (next day)
I didn't change anything and now it's booting normally. The progress bar during boot starts going across, then starts going back and forth, and then resumes going forward. But it does finish booting.

I am wondering, whether your report is the duplicate of bug 263059

As I can see Intel 3945 wireless is in place. May you, please, switch it off via BIOS and see, whether this will resolve the issue.

Alexey,
I read the bug and it sure sounds like the same thing. I put my backup of Hardy back in and I didn't save the intrepid system. Later today I can reinstall Intrepid and try w/ wireless/off.
I'll let you know if it boots consistently.

Just to let you know: this issue may be triggered using 8.10 beta Desktop CD (aka LiveCD).

But if you have some time to spend and resources, it is always a good idea to check how upgrade works and provide feedback to developers [1]

Alexey,
I installed with alternate cd. It wouldn't boot after ejecting cd. I shut off the wireless in bios.
It booted twice, I installed the first set of updates and it rebooted again. I have 6 more updates then I'll try rebooting a couple times.
If that works I'll turn the wireless back on and see what happens.

If this seems to be the problem should the info go to the iso testing team on that page?

Ok, with wireless off I booted about 15 times in a row successfully. I turned on wireless and it seems to be booting ok, although not as smoothly. I've only rebooted about 3 times with the wireless on.
Compiz.real and jockey did not crash as long as the wireless was off. It did before. When I turned the wireless on compiz real has crashed once.

wireless on

15 boots, 5 failed
compiz real crashed 4 times, jockey crashed 3 times

15 boots , no fails, no ap crashes
