Bug Description

Ubuntu 8.10 alpha 6
From either Synaptic or the terminal I could not install the 'gnome' package. This is the result of the terminal output:

noorez@nooni-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install gnome
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnome: Depends: gnome-office (= 1:2.20.2.4ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: system-config-printer (>= 0.7.81) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
noorez@nooni-laptop:~$

I made sure that all the repos were enabled.

Looks like gnome depends on system-config-printer >= 0.7.81, but system-config-printer is a virtual package provided system-config-printer-gnome (which I already have installed). Perhaps gnome should depends just on system-config-printer (no version) or perhaps system-config-printer-gnome specifically.

gnome-office also depends on abiword-plugin-goffice which no longer exists.

Pedro, please take more care when filing sync requests - installing packages are good.

    - gnome-dbg remove libgail-dbg due to gail change (LP: #273387)
    - gnome-devel unversion glade-gnome
    - gnome-desktop uses system-config-printer-gnome and

Hi,

Should the package perhaps depend on abiword, as while there is no
goffice integration, installing a word-processor may be what the
user expects of this metapackage?

Thanks,

James

The last debdiff is correct, uploaded.

The only remaining problem is gnome-devel being uninstallable due to anjuta being uninstallable, but that's anjuta's fault and not meta-gnome2. I'll make sure it's fixed soon in any case.
