Bug Description

Binary package hint: xvidcap

There is an ongoing transition to a new version of lame, during which the library was renamed from liblame to libmp3lame. xvidcap appears in liblame's rdepends and therefore must be rebuilt against the new version.

Is it fixed? I don't know, but I have the following problem with Ubuntu 8.10 (which I have fully updated with update-manager) when attempting to run xvidcap:

I open a terminal window, type "xvidcap", the graphical menu and red outline bar appear as expected. But when I click on the red button to start recording, the program exits and this error message appears in the terminal window:

xtoffmpeg.c add_video_stream(): video codec not found

This may be a duplicate bug: 250054

That bug is also reported to be fixed, but clearly it is not.

best regards,
Robert

I also seem to have this problem still.

Fully updated version of Ubuntu 9.04

user@user~$ xvidcap

And after i hit the record button it crashes with:

xtoffmpeg.c add_video_stream(): video codec not found

This bug was about a build failure, the comments #6 and #7 are about runtime problems.

hint: make sure you have the package 'ubuntu-restricted-extras' or at least 'libavcodec-unstripped-52' installed. The libavcodec from main is not linked against lame at all, only the version from multiverse is.

Yes, I have the problem as well. I can record the video but I have no sound.
(btw. I have upgraded to the latest ubuntu-version 9.04)
