Please remove sugar-write-activity from Intrepid

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  sugar-write-activity: Depends: python-abiword (>= 0.6) but it is not installable
E: Broken packages

First off, thank you for your work to make sugar accessible on Ubuntu. I find this very important, since I use Ubuntu a lot for my kids.

How can i resolve this issue?
I would love to show sugar to my kids, but without a write activity it's rather pointless :-)

You can try this:
Got to http://dev.laptop.org/~morgan/bundles/other/Write-54.xo in Browse and install via the normal method ( http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Activities#Installing_Downloaded_Activities ).

If that doesn't work... you can try sugar-jhbuild ( http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar_on_Ubuntu_Linux#Option_2_-_sugar-jhbuild ) but that is unsupported, and is a development tool (compiles its own binaries)

You can get python-abiword by following the advice at http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Sugar_on_Ubuntu_Linux#Option_3_-_Hardy_packages.

You need to add the repository lines

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/sugar/ubuntu hardy main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/sugar/ubuntu hardy main

to your /etc/apt/sources.list.

However, after seemingly successful installation Write and Poll both fail due to missing libraries.

Updated packages for hardy including Sugar 0.82 are in the Sugar Team PPA: https://launchpad.net/~sugarteam/+archive. I'll test and make sure Write is working there.

Unfortunately, sugar-write-activity still won't work in intrepid out of the box because abiword is still not packaged in ubuntu with libabiword and python-abiword. I'll carry over the python-abiword to intrepid in the PPA to handle this.

The best course of action may be to remove sugar-write-activity from intrepid's archive to prevent support issues.

Would sugar-write-activity work if python-abiword is added into intrepid?

Luke, it needs abiword to be built in a modular way to produce a libabiword package, which python-abiword would need. I spoke to abiword upstream (uwog) and it will probably happen for the next major abiword release.

Abiword is built like this in the sugarteam PPA, so I'll update it to the latest abiword version (2.6.4) there and keep sugar-write-activity there until we can support it in the main archive in jaunty.
